Iscar Announces A New Family Of Slitting Cutters Applying Tang-Grip Technology And The Sturdiness Of Sumo Tec Grades

Iscar right now offers a family of high-performance slitting tools that combine the convenience and security of Tang-Grip clamping with the increased strength of the brand new Sumo Tec insert grades.

The conception, already proven effective in Tang-Grip parting tools, has now been spread to slitting cutters. In the patented Tang-Grip clamping system, inserts are press-fit into their pockets accompanying a specific hand tool, and are held solidly in place without the need for clamps, upper jaws or set screws that can weaken the insert and hinder chip flow. The pocket design utilizes cutting forces to hold the insert seated tightly in position, preventing any risk of insert pull-out. The Tang-Grip clamping system also fosters additional accurate slitting cuts plus lengthened pocket and insert life.

Iscar's Sumo Tec insert grades feature a special post-coating treatment which greatly boosts tool life and constancy.

Unveiled in late '07, the unique Sumo Tec treatment flattens the insert's coated surface to eradicate microscopic stress raisers, decrease heat and friction and improve chip flow. The result is enhanced toughness and opposition to chipping and built-up edge, all leading to enhanced tool lifespan. The golden-colored flank on Sumo Tec inserts eases wear detection. Size for size, Tangslit cutters give more teeth than Iscar's SGSF cutters, allowing higher feed rates.

Their improved rigidity leads to straighter, more accurate cuts and lower vibration even in large-diameter cutters. The brand new Tangslit TGSF cutters come in 100 to 160 mm diameters, 3 and 4 mm widths and can accept the exact same assortment of inserts as Tang-Grip parting tools. Additional sizes will be added.

Obtainable Sumo Tec grades for Tangslit cutters include:
IC808, with a tough submicron substrate below a Sumo Tec TiAlN PVD coating, delivering superior resistance to impact loads and built-up edge. This grade is recommended for slitting heat resistant alloys, austenitic stainless steel, hard alloys & carbon steel.

IC830, giving increased toughness for heavier parting & grooving involving interrupted cuts. It is appropriate for every stainless steel and high temperature alloys.

IC908, a hard, fine-grain substrate with exceptional chipping resistance, combined with a completely new Sumo Tec TiAlN PVD coating. It is perfect for nodular or grey cast iron.

IC928 and 928A, PVD TiAlN-coated tough grades suited for stainless steel, high temperature alloys and other alloy steels. These grades are also favored for interrupted cuts and heavy operations.

Every Tangslit and Tang-Grip inserts are presented in J- or C-type chipformer geometries from Iscar.
